Tending the Seed of Faith

January 11, 2025 by M. Stephanie Zeller

Having strong faith in God is very comforting. Faith tells us we are safe, when we are in the middle of a storm. Faith tells us we have hope when we are discouraged. Faith tells us we are healed when our body seems to disagree. Faith tells us we are known by God and loved by God when we are not certain in our thoughts what all of that means.

In the Lord’s prayer, we are taught to pray “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” When we pray for God’s will to be done on earth, we are praying for his rulership. Faith teaches us that God is good and that His rulership is to be desired. Faith also acts to draw God’s kingdom into our earthly world. Living in God’s kingdom enables us to be victorious in life; it also enables us to live a surrendered life.

Faith is more than a bridge connecting our earthly world with God’s kingdom. Faith is the spark of God’s life in our spirit. The brighter it burns, the more of God’s light shines through us.

As we walk out our lives as believers in Christ, our faith will grow and mature as we tend our faith — much as a good farmer would tend his crops. It all starts with a seed that comes alive when we invite Christ into our hearts. How we nurture that seed is our story — our journey of faith.
